Students from Delton
school in Edmonton built this site for Cora. It was part of a research
project using the Focus on Inquiry Model from Alberta
Learning.
Planning
Planning was a little difficult because none of the five of us
knew really how to build a site. But with the help of our teacher,
we managed to learn the basic aspects and structure of a website.
We also talked to Matt Evans from Digital Tea, a media service company,
who definitely helped us understand a little more.
Retrieving
When building this website the first thing we did was read some
of her books and look at other authors' websites. Then we met up
with Cora. During our meeting she explained about what she wanted
the site to have on it. Next, we organized our thoughts on looseleaf
paper and then again into a powerpoint presentation.
Processing
Processing is never really finished. You are always thinking about
things you can change and reformat and all that stuff.
Creating
Creating was the biggest part. It was when we built the website,
did all the writing and revised an edited again and again and again
and again........
Sharing
Sharing is what I'm doing right now. But we shared not just with
you but with ourselves. We also invite you to share with us. Matt
is the webmaster of this site, now that we have to get on with our
other school work. His company web site is http://www.digitaltea.com.
Evaluating
Evaluating is connected to all the other categories of process. It
was when the site was all built and all the mistakes were corrected
and everything was A-okay. Thats when we evaluated. We rethought
the structure and everything else you can think of too.
Reflecting on the Process
Sometimes it was frustrating, especially when we had to re-do stuff.
It was also tiring sometimes, when it was just plugging in infomation.
It was much more fun finding royalty-free graphics and visiting
other websites. But it felt good to build a real site for other
people to enjoy.
Conclusion
This site will never be done. A website was a big job for me and
the other students, but I'm glad we did it because one day some
author came up to us and said "Hey, can you build a website
for me?" and we did. And even though I knew nothing about computers,
a few students, our teacher and I built a website anyway.
